Larger of the two terminal branches of the brachial artery, the ulnar artery supplies the medial aspect of the forearm. It begins a little below the bend of the elbow in the cubital fossa and passes obliquely downward, reaching the ulnar side of the forearm about midway between elbow and wrist, then running along the ulnar border to the wrist. There it crosses the transverse carpal ligament on the radial side of the pisiform bone and immediately divides into two branches that enter the superficial and deep volar arches, the superficial arch being completed by the superficial branch of the radial artery. The vessel is palpable on the anterior and medial aspect of the wrist and is accompanied along its course by the ulnar vein or veins.
