Contraction depresses the ypsiloid cartilage; arises from the anterodorsal edge of the pubis deep to the m. rectus abdominis profundus and spreads anteriorly in a fan shape to insert on the lateral edges of the shaft and the posterior edges of the lateral processes of the ypsiloid cartilage .
