The fibular vein is a vein that drains blood from the lateral compartment of the leg and serves as a tributary of the posterior tibial vein, contributing to venous return from the lower limb.

The fibular vein is located in the lateral compartment of the lower leg, running alongside the fibular artery near the fibula bone before joining the posterior tibial vein in the deep compartment.

The fibular vein is involved in draining deoxygenated blood from the muscles and soft tissues of the lateral leg compartment, returning it to the deep venous system of the lower limb.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the lower leg, venous insufficiency, or trauma to the lateral leg compartment may be associated with involvement of the fibular vein.

The fibular vein may be assessed through lower limb Doppler ultrasound, venography, or cross-sectional imaging such as CT or MRI of the leg, particularly in evaluation for deep vein thrombosis.
