anterior humeral circumflex artery

An artery that branches from the axilliary artery and supplies the deltoid, biceps brachii, and coracobrachialis muscles, the glenohumeral joint, the proximal humeral head, and the skin overlying the anterior aspect of the proximal humerus. This artery courses laterally across the anterior surface of the humerus and anastomoses with the posterior humeral circumflex artery.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

What is the anterior humeral circumflex artery?
The anterior humeral circumflex artery is a branch of the axillary artery that courses laterally across the anterior surface of the humerus. It supplies blood to muscles of the anterior shoulder region, the glenohumeral joint, and the proximal humeral head.
Where is the anterior humeral circumflex artery located?
The anterior humeral circumflex artery originates from the axillary artery and travels laterally along the anterior surface of the humerus, beneath the coracobrachialis and short head of the biceps brachii. It anastomoses with the posterior humeral circumflex artery around the surgical neck of the humerus.
What is the function of the anterior humeral circumflex artery?
The anterior humeral circumflex artery delivers blood to the deltoid, biceps brachii, and coracobrachialis muscles. It also supplies the glenohumeral joint, the proximal humeral head, and the skin over the anterior aspect of the proximal humerus, and forms an arterial anastomosis with the posterior humeral circumflex artery.
What conditions may be associated with the anterior humeral circumflex artery?
The anterior humeral circumflex artery is involved in the blood supply to the humeral head, and its disruption may be associated with avascular necrosis following certain proximal humerus fractures. Its involvement in shoulder vascular anatomy is considered in surgical planning. Clinical evaluation determines relevance in any specific case.
How is the anterior humeral circumflex artery examined?
The anterior humeral circumflex artery can be visualized through CT angiography, MR angiography, or conventional digital subtraction angiography. Doppler ultrasound may also assess flow in this vessel. These imaging methods help evaluate vascular anatomy in the context of shoulder injury or pathology.
