The short gastric artery is one of several small arterial branches arising from the splenic artery that supply the fundus of the stomach along its greater curvature. There are typically four to five short gastric arteries.

The short gastric arteries arise from the splenic artery or its branches near the splenic hilum and course through the gastrosplenic ligament to reach the fundus of the stomach on the greater curvature side.

The short gastric arteries supply oxygenated blood to the gastric fundus, contributing to the blood supply of the upper stomach along with branches of the left and right gastric arteries.

The short gastric arteries may be involved in gastric ischemia when multiple vessels are compromised, particularly following splenectomy if ligation is not carefully performed. They can also be a site of hemorrhage in gastric trauma.

The short gastric arteries are small, short arterial vessels running in the gastrosplenic ligament between the splenic hilum and the gastric fundus. They are visible on CT angiography as multiple small branches arising near the splenic hilum.
