The median ventricular nerve (sensu Cancer borealis) is a nerve in the stomatogastric nervous system of the crustacean Cancer borealis. It carries most of the efferent fibers leaving the stomatogastric ganglion and is involved in transmitting motor signals to the gastric mill and pyloric stomach muscles. It runs posteriorly before branching into the right and left lateral ventricular nerves.

In Cancer borealis, the median ventricular nerve is located running posteriorly in a dorsal position from the stomatogastric ganglion. It then divides bilaterally into the right and left lateral ventricular nerves, which project to their respective sides of the stomach. This nerve is part of the peripheral nervous innervation of the crustacean foregut.

The median ventricular nerve is involved in conducting motor commands from the stomatogastric ganglion to the muscles of the gastric mill and pyloric regions of the crustacean stomach. It carries the majority of efferent output from the stomatogastric ganglion and branches to distribute motor signals bilaterally to stomach muscles on both sides.

As this nerve is part of the invertebrate stomatogastric nervous system, it is primarily studied in laboratory and research contexts. Experimental manipulations such as axotomy, pharmacological application of neuromodulators, or temperature changes may be associated with altered activity in the neurons carried by this nerve, influencing gastric and pyloric motor patterns.
