よくある質問

What is the intervillous space?
The intervillous space is the irregular cavity within the placenta bounded by the chorionic villi and the placental septa, filled with maternal blood.
Where is the intervillous space located?
Located throughout the placental disk between the chorionic villi and the basal plate, it receives maternal blood from spiral arteries and drains via maternal venules.
What is the function of the intervillous space?
The intervillous space provides the functional environment for maternal-fetal exchange, allowing maternal blood to bathe the chorionic villi and facilitate gas, nutrient, and waste transfer.
What is the intervillous space connected to?
The space communicates with spiral arteries that deliver maternal blood and drains into maternal veins, while fetal blood circulates within the villous vessels.
Why is the intervillous space clinically important?
Inadequate blood flow through the intervillous space due to poor placentation can result in preeclampsia, fetal hypoxia, and intrauterine growth restriction.
