anterior superior segmental renal artery

A segmental renal artery that passes anterior to the renal pelvis, superiorly and laterally towards the superior pole of the kidney. It does not ascend as steeply as the superior segmental artery and does not extend into the superior pole. It supplies the anterosuperior lobe of the kidney, which includes the central anterosuperior region, extending to the lateral aspect and slightly onto the posterior surface of the kidney.

よくある質問

What is the anterior superior segmental renal artery?
The anterior superior segmental renal artery is a branch of the anterior division of the renal artery. It passes anterior to the renal pelvis, traveling superiorly and laterally toward the upper portion of the kidney, supplying the anterosuperior lobe of the kidney including its central anterosuperior region and extending to the lateral and slightly posterior surface.
Where is the anterior superior segmental renal artery located?
This artery is located in the renal sinus, passing in front of the renal pelvis. It travels superiorly and laterally within the kidney tissue, positioned between the superior segmental artery above it and the other anterior segmental arteries below. It does not ascend as steeply as the superior segmental artery and does not typically reach the superior pole itself.
What is the function of the anterior superior segmental renal artery?
The anterior superior segmental renal artery is involved in delivering oxygenated blood to the anterosuperior lobe of the kidney. This segment of renal tissue includes the central anterosuperior region, extending to the lateral aspect and slightly onto the posterior surface, supporting the filtration and other metabolic functions of the nephrons within that territory.
What conditions may affect the anterior superior segmental renal artery?
Like other segmental renal arteries, this vessel may be associated with renal artery stenosis, atherosclerosis, fibromuscular dysplasia, or thromboembolism, any of which may be involved in reduced blood flow to the anterosuperior renal segment. Trauma or surgical procedures in the kidney region may also involve injury to this artery.
How is the anterior superior segmental renal artery examined?
This artery is typically assessed using imaging techniques such as renal angiography, CT angiography (CTA), or Doppler ultrasound. These modalities can visualize the vessel's caliber, course, and flow characteristics. Detailed segmental anatomy is often studied during preoperative planning for partial nephrectomy or renal transplantation.
