Os tibiae
The larger of the two leg bones, the tibia carries most of the weight transmitted from the femur to the foot and forms part of both the knee and the ankle. It lies medially in the leg. Its proximal end widens into the medial and lateral condyles, separated by the tibial plateau, and the tibial tuberosity below them anchors the patellar ligament; at the distal end, the medial malleolus contributes to the ankle joint. Fractures of the tibial plateau involve the knee surface, and shaft fractures are the most common long-bone fractures.
