right intramural ureter

The right intramural ureter is the terminal segment of the right ureter that passes through the wall of the urinary bladder. It is the portion of the right ureter embedded within the bladder wall, connecting the right distal ureter to the interior of the bladder.

The right intramural ureter is situated in the lower pelvis, within the posterior wall of the urinary bladder on the right side. It travels obliquely through the bladder wall to terminate at the right ureteric orifice on the trigone of the bladder.

The right intramural ureter carries urine produced by the right kidney into the urinary bladder. Its oblique path through the bladder wall functions as a passive anti-reflux mechanism, helping to prevent urine from flowing back up into the right ureter during bladder filling and contraction.

The right intramural ureter is typically examined using imaging techniques such as CT urography, renal ultrasound, or intravenous pyelography. Cystoscopy provides direct visualization of the ureteric orifice, while voiding cystourethrography can assess for reflux.
