posterolateral supplementary element

A muscle slip arising from the ventral surface of the mandible by means of the ligament near the site of mandibular articulation. The fibers pass anteromedially and attach upon the ventral surfaces of the principal element of the m. intermandibularis (Tyler, 1971).
