Chorionic plate blood vessels are the major fetal blood vessels that traverse the chorionic plate distributing blood to and from the villous tree.

Located within the chorionic plate on the fetal surface of the placenta, these vessels branch from the umbilical vessels at the umbilical cord insertion point.

These vessels carry oxygenated blood from the placenta to the fetus via the umbilical vein and return deoxygenated blood from the fetus via the umbilical arteries.

The vessels connect the umbilical cord to the extensive villous vascular network, allowing perfusion of all placental territories.

Abnormalities such as velamentous cord insertion can compromise placental perfusion and lead to fetal anemia, growth restriction, or demise.
